What We Saw In Banff And It Was All Free

We had one day to spend in Banff and wanted to make the most of it with a limited budget. What can you do in Banff FOR FREE? We found out.

Our day started with a stop to see the hoodoos. In case you aren’t familiar with hoodoos, they are weathered rock formations and look like chimneys on the hillside. Banff isn’t the only place hoodoos can be seen in Canada, but these ones definitely come with an amazing view of the valley below. While there, we could hear elk calling in the distance and it was really cool to hear their high pitched cries. A bit eerie, too.

Next up was to check out the village. The town of Banff is really amazing and offers FREE RV PARKING just before driving into town. The lot is found on Railway Rd and is only a 5 minute walk from downtown Banff. We enjoyed walking around town to see the shops and restaurants. It also turned out to be market day.

No visit to Banff is complete without a photo-op at the sign on the way into town. Jay’s Dad had a bit of fun posing with it, which made us all laugh.

Lastly, we drove up Mt. Norquay Rd where there is a lookout part way up overlooking the town of Banff. At the top there are hikes, a ski hill (in the winter) and some other activities, but we didn’t have the time to take any of them in. On the drive down, though, we were excited to spot some bighorn sheep and deer!

Banff was our last stop on our family RV road trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We spent a day exploring the sights and village before parting ways - Jay’s parents to Calgary, and the rest of us back to BC.

Until next time, keep on living the life you’ve imagined!
