Silver Lake provincial park, BC

Silver Lake provincial park is located near the town of Hope, BC. We stayed here for a few days to relax and write.film a review of the campground . I won’t go into too many details about the review here, because you can read and watch all about it in that post. What I will say is that it’s a nice little campground and a great place to disconnect from urban conveniences, such as mobile signals.

Campfire nachos

While camping, we like to experiment with cooking on the campfire. This trip was no different. You may remember the time we made nachos on the campfire while staying at Sasquatch provincial park for our anniversary? We decided to take another shot at them and they turned out great!

To make campfire nachos, you need three things:

  • Tin pie plates
  • Tin foil
  • Hot mitts

The ingredients you’ll need are:

  • Nacho chips
  • Shredded cheese
  • Other nacho toppings, such as hot banana peppers, chives, or even cooked meats. (optional)
  • Dipping sauces, such as salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

Once you have a good fire going, put a layer of nacho chips in the pie plate and top with cheese and other optional toppings. Tent some tin foil over the pie plate to cover it. This will help trap the heat inside and melt the cheese without sticking to the foil. Then put the pie plate on the fire grate for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Once the cheese is melted to your liking, take it off the fire with your hot mitts, carefully remove the foil, and enjoy your hot cheesy goodness with the dips you have.

2-player board game

The other thing we like to do while camping, and did a lot of on this trip, is playing games. Sometimes it can be tough to find good 2-player games, so when we find one that we like we tell everyone we know. We absolutely love a 2-player competitive game called 7 Wonders Duel right now. This game was recommended to us by friends who also have a passion for games nights and 2-player games.

The premise of this game is to collect various resources, build wonders, and beat out your opponent with either military, scientific, or civil domination. I have to admit that it took us three hours to play our first game while we figured it all out, but now that we understand how to play we can play a game in 20-40 minutes. There are so many different ways that the cards can be dealt and strategies that a player can take that every game is different and we still haven’t gotten bored of it after nearly a year!

For these reasons, we love disconnecting from our phones and computers from time to time. We get to explore our creativity and slow things down in a way that we can’t when there are temptations and distractions alerting and pinging us all the time. A simple life, even for a short time, is so energizing and rejuvenating that it makes us ready to take on anything the world throws at us. We hope you have the opportunity to try it, too.

Until next time, keep on living the life you’ve imagined!
