When I arrived at the bakery, the first thing I noticed was the sweet aroma of freshly baked goods wafting through the air. Brent, the baker, greeted me with a warm smile and introduced me to the inner workings of the bakery. He started his shift at midnight, ensuring that everything was prepared for the day ahead. The bakery produces an impressive number of donuts each day, with over 300 on average, but during the summer months, this number could rise to over 1,000!

After rising, the donut dough is cut into four sections before it is gently patted to remove excess air and allowed to rest.

Cara, the donut maker and cake decorator, arrived at 4:00 am to help prepare the donuts for the day. Her job included decorating the donuts, icing them, and filling them. She also made cakes and cupcakes, and I was excited to learn that I would get to decorate some of the cakes with her that day. Cara started working at the bakery in 2015, originally slicing bread, but her role evolved as the bakery became busier during the summer months.

One of the things I love about The Rolling Pin Bakery was how they play with recipes and experiment with different ingredients. Brent and Cara were not afraid to try new things, and this resulted in some of the most delectable treats I have ever tasted. They had just come up with a new recipe for lemon loaf that I was excited to try, and it did not disappoint.

As the day progressed, more staff arrived, and preparations began for the day ahead. Brent and Cara worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was ready, including the famous Brookies, a chocolate chip cookie baked inside a brownie. It was fascinating to watch them work with such efficiency and attention to detail, ensuring that everything was perfect.

One of the most impressive things about The Rolling Pin Bakery was the sheer size of everything. The oven was bigger than a minivan and had five racks on the inside that rotated like a ferris wheel. Brent explained that they once baked 1,500 buns in a day, and the delectable treats sold out almost immediately.
