This week we headed to Chilliwack, BC to do a little boondocking/dry camping at Tamihi Creek campground. This is a budget friendly campground found in the Chilliwack river valley on Chilliwack Lake Rd. It’s a 1.5 hour drive east of Vancouver.

The campground is split into two sections, East and West. Tamihi East is a small, open 17-site lot, whereas Tamihi West is an 88 site, mostly forested campground. All sites are back-in only and are designed for dry camping. They have outhouses and firewood for sale, but there are no hookups, running water, or sani stations, so come prepared!

The site hosts take really great care of the campground, making the $17/night fee well worth it. We found our site to be pretty level, the firepit had been freshly cleaned out, and they even delivered firewood (extra fee).

The whole area is an outdoor playground. When we first arrived there were a few ATVers getting in a couple of final runs before they headed home after the long Easter weekend. They weren’t in the campground, but we could hear them on the nearby logging roads.

Our site backed onto the Trans-Canada trail that runs along the Chilliwack river. The trail wasn’t busy at all, and gave us easy access to watch people fishing in the river, and look for white water kayakers - we didn’t see any this time. Down the road from the campground is a white water rafting business that we’d like to check out one day.

Camping mid-week after a long weekend is perfect at a time like this. We practically had the entire place to ourselves! I think there were three other campsites occupied during our three-night stay. On top of that, it’s proximity to Chilliwack made it convenient for us to go into town to do some shopping on a rainy day so we didn’t have to be cooped up in the rig all day.

We will definitely be returning to this campground and be checking out some of the others we saw in the area.
